Choice is one of the most important elements of creativity. I created the Fabric Store Directory because I wanted to increase my choice of fabrics to sew garments for myself and my family members. When I started, I thought that the directory would have about 50 stores. Then, I started finding more and more stores. As a result, over a two year period the directory has grown to over 400 stores. The Fabric Store Directory contains local stores that you would find driving through small towns, regional stores that serve populations in specific areas, and larger stores that are known nationally and internationally.
One thing I noticed was the uniqueness and character of each store. Fabric stores are a unique business that thrive on high quality product and excellent customer service. It was wonderful to discover that stores all over the world embodied these qualities and many ship not only to their local community, but to home sewists all over the world.
The goal of the Fabric Store Directory is to help the home sewist discover the choices they have when creating garments. I want the Fabric Store Directory to be like a door, but instead of the door opening to one store, the door opens to over 400. If you are dreaming of a particular fabric in a particular color, it is out there. I hope the Fabric Store Directory will inspire and enable home sewists from all over the world to more easily create the garments of their dreams.
